Assisting, educating and supporting

Classes

IMPORTANT NOTE:

To follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease) response guidelines and in the interest of putting the safety of our patients, colleagues, families, and community members first, Burdett Birth Center is acting out of an abundance of caution in cancelling all education classes and support groups until at least Tuesday, March 31. We look forward to reconvening at a later date.

At Burdett Birth Center, we understand that the birth of a child can raise many questions. Our childbirth classes are designed to answer some of those questions so that you can focus on what’s most important…welcoming your new little one into the world!

Lactation Basics Class

While breastfeeding is a natural process, it is also a learned art. Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this class offers information on how your body produces milk and how to get your milk supply off to the best possible start. We also discuss what do to if things aren’t going well. This class is helpful for parents planning to latch the baby to their breast or chest or for parents who wish to exclusively pump milk to bottle feed their baby.

This is the first class of a two-part series but can be taken alone. We strongly recommend this class for anyone who is considering using their own milk to feed their baby. This class includes videos, discussions and handouts. Partners and other support people are welcome to attend.

This class is held in the evening, 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Pattison Board Room, 2nd Floor, Samaritan Hospital – Tower Building. Click Register Now below to see available dates.

Milk Expression and Feeding Class

Are you returning to work or school after having a baby or maybe you are working from home or parenting full time but would like to be able to leave the baby with milk? Are you considering exclusively pumping? Then this is the class for you! Anyone can take this class at any time, whether pregnant or post-partum but it compliments our Lactation Basics Class if taken immediately after that introductory class.

We will not be pumping during the class but will be watching videos and discussing a variety of topics related to removing your milk with various breast pumps and devices and how to effectively feed your baby with your own milk. We will have different pump models on display for instruction and discussion to guide you in purchasing the right one for you. In addition, we may discuss different ways to feed expressed milk to babies including bottle and nipple types. Partners and other support people, as well as infants, are welcome to join us.

This class is held at 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Pattison Board Room, 2nd Floor, Samaritan Hospital – Tower Building. Registration is required.
