Burdett Birth Center Takes Part in AHA’s “Little Hats, Big Hearts” Program

As a kick-off to American Heart Month, representatives from Burdett Birth Center and St. Peter’s Hospital were proud to accept hundreds of tiny red hats provided by the American Heart Association (AHA) of New York State. The mini hats will be distributed to newborns born at Burdett to raise awareness for heart disease and congenital heart defects, as a part of the annual Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign.

Tammy Stone, RN, supervisor of labor and delivery at St. Peter’s Hospital, and Colleen Crosby, MS, RN, interim nurse manager at Burdett Birth Center, attended Tuesday’s AHA press conference, where nearly 3,000 donated hats were distributed to local hospitals throughout the Capital Region. The hats were knit or crocheted by hundreds of local volunteers.

According to the AHA, one of out every 100 children is born with a congenital heart defect. Learn more about the Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign by clicking here.
