Last week Amy Green MSN, RN, nurse manager at Burdett Birth Center in Troy, accepted hundreds of tiny red hats provided by the American Heart Association (AHA) of New York State as part of its Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign.
In celebration of American Heart Month, the locally handmade hats will be distributed to babies born in February. The program aims to raise awareness about congenital heart defects. One out of every 100 children is born with a congenital heart defect, according to the AHA.
This year, the AHA received more than 1,000 donated hats, which were knit or crocheted by about 40 volunteers. Green participated in a press conference on Friday, where the hats were distributed to representatives from hospitals throughout the Capital Region.
Burdett Birth Center is proud to participate in the program, distribute red hats to newborns, and help raise awareness about heart disease and congenital heart defects.
